Using LinkedIn to Grow Your Consulting Practice
Dwayne Miller, MBA, PMP
Before being downsized in December of 2008,
Dwayne Miller worked in the Anheuser Busch IT Department
for 24 years, the last 12 as a project manager.
As an IT pro, when he started his search for a new job,
he made extensive use of LinkedIn and other on-line resources.
Dwayne started a new position as a project manager at CenturyLink on Monday 11/9/09.
As consultants, we seek new clients and engagements, rather than a new employer.
But the on-line networking skills and knowledge that Dwayne learned, and now teaches,
are equally valid and useful.
In this month's IMC/STL program, Dwayne is going to teach us about:

- LinkedIn - Professional FaceBook
- LinkedIn - Online Rolladex and Networking Tool
- Secure Networking
- Networking into Businesses

BIO:
For 24 years, Dwayne Miller worked for Anheuser Busch in the IT Department,
focusing on project management and the infrastructure side of IT.
But in December, 2008, the A-B merger/downsizing forced him into a job search...
in what we all know is a severely challenging economic environment.
During his search, Mr. Miller used state funding to get training
for PMP, ITIL v3 Foundations, and Lean Six Sigma certifications.
He has earned his PMP and ITIL certifications,
and is working to have his Black Belt in Lean Six Sigma by March of next year.
Also during his search,
Dwayne got involved with the steering committees on Go! Network
and Businesspersons Between Jobs.
For BBJ, he greatly improved the Practice Interview Committee
by raising the awareness of the benefits of practicing interviews.
Now, instead of only 2 or 3 people practicing their interviews each week,
more than 15 are participating... and the numbers are growing.
Dwayne also taught himself LinkedIn during the time he was out,
and when the opportunity came along, began teaching LinkedIn classes at Go! Network.
He has since trained four other people to take over the training, which continues today.
In addition to presenting to our IMC chapter,
Dwayne will soon be giving a LinkedIn presentation at BBJ,
and another at the St. Louis Chapter of PMI in March.
